W&J grapplers go 2-1 at Si Ostrach meet in Cleveland

Results: W vs. Muskingum, 32-18; L vs John Carroll, 33-19; W vs. Case Western Reserve, 25-21
 
How it Happened: Washington & Jefferson scored a pair of dual match victories by toppling Muskingum (32-18) and Case Western Reserve (25-21) at the annual Si Ostrach duals at CWRU.
 
Top Performers: Nick Kumburis (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) was one of three Presidents to post a 3-0 mark on the day, earning a pair of pinfalls and a forfeit victory at the heavyweight class. He needed just 1:54 to pin his opponent versus Muskingum and took down his foe from CWRU in 4:16. Sonnieboy Blanco (Burlington, N.J./Burlington City) scored bonus points in all three of his victories as well, posting a pair of technical falls and a major decision. He wrestled up at 184 against the Muskies and took home a 21-6 technical fall. He then returned to his normal 174 for a 12-2 major decision against John Carroll and a 22-7 technical fall versus Case Western Reserve. Blanco's three wins on the day moved him to 105 for his career, passing former teammate Jacob Spearman for fourth place on the W&J wins list. Hunter Neely (Cokeburg, Pa./Bentworth) pinned his Muskingum opponent at 157 in 2:10 and then went up to 165 to score an 8-1 decision against JCU and a 17-5 major decision while opposing CWRU.
 
The Rest: Four Presidents had 2-1 days, led by Alex Miller's (Fredricksburg, Va./Riverbend) pin in 1:08 at 174 against Muskingum, coupled with his 9-1 major decision at 184 against CWRU. Sam Florentino (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) earned a 4-1 decision to open up the day against Muskingum and then moved up to 157 to score a 46 second pin versus John Carroll. Michael Heinl (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) (141) and William Oberschelp (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) (197) both earned a pair of wins by decision on the day.
 
What's Next: W&J will host Senior Night ceremonies before its scheduled 8 p.m. dual match against Penn State Fayette on Thursday, Jan. 26.
