Jomara Coghlan (Ohio '93), a four-time Empire 8 Field Hockey Coach of the Year (2007, 2010, 2017, 2018), has served as head coach for 15 seasons at Washington & Jefferson College. She owns a 168-89 career record (.654) and has helped W&J reach the Empire 8 Tournament in 11 of her 15 seasons at the helm. Her .654 winning percentage ranks 25th best among active Division III head coaches.

Coghlan guided the Presidents to a historic season in 2018, as the Red and Black finished with a program-record 18 victories, which includes its first-ever win in the NCAA Tournament over Rhodes, 3-0, on Nov. 7, at Cameron Stadium. W&J also won its second consecutive Empire 8 Championship and the third in program history. Rachel Buyan was honored with a slew of postseason awards for her success in 2018. Buyan was named a Second Team All-American by both the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association and Synapse Sports. Buyan earned Offensive Player of the Year honors from both the Empire 8 and the ECAC. Sophomore goalkeeper Rena Israel was named a Third Team All-American by Longstreth/NFHCA.

Israel and the Washington & Jefferson College Field Hockey team recorded five NCAA Division III statistical champions. Israel was recognized for leading the nation in Goals Against Average (0.28) and Save Percentage (.909). Meanwhile, the Presidents as a team, led all of Division III Field Hockey in Goals Against Average (0.30), Save Percentage (.903) and Shutouts Per Game (0.75).

Coghlan led the 2017 squad to a 13-5 overall record which included the program's first undefeated record in conference play (7-0) and second Empire 8 Conference Championship, first since 2011, to earn her third career E8 Coach of the Year award. Under her leadership, six Presidents were named to the 2017 All-E8 Conference teams, including First Team honors for senior Karlie Baran and junior Rachel Buyan, and two All-ECAC and All-North Atlantic Region teams (Baran and Buyan).

The 2016 season saw the best start to a season in program history as Coghlan led the Presidents to a 10-0 record to begin the season, which also tied the program record for consecutive wins. The 2016 Presidents reached the Empire 8 championship game, but fell to St. John Fisher by a score of 2-1. The 15 wins during the 2016 season tied the program record set by the 2007 and 2010 squads.

In 2011, Coghlan led W&J to its first Empire 8 Championship and NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in school history. The Presidents finished the season with 14 wins, the third-highest win total in program history. She played a major role in the development of Jennifer Marabella, who set the school records for career goals (59) and total points (129) during her four-year career that ended in 2012.

The 15-4 record W&J posted in the 2010 season matched the program's highest win total set in 2007. It was the first season in school history a W&J player was named as an All-American. Marabella earned second team honors on the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-America squad.

Coghlan guided the 2008 Presidents to the ECAC Division III Tournament for the second consecutive season. W&J notched a 12-8 overall record, marking its third-straight, double-digit win season.

In 2007, Coghlan helped W&J achieve its best field hockey season in history as the Presidents won a school-record 15 matches and claimed the regular-season Empire 8 Conference title. W&J also set a new school record with a 10-game win streak. W&J earned its first postseason appearance in school history as the Presidents hosted an ECAC Tournament quarterfinal contest.

During her tenure, 58 Presidents have been selected to the Empire 8 All-Conference Team and 15 student-athletes, Rachel Buyan (three times, 2016 & 2017 & 2018), Alana Boyd (2018), Rena Israel (2018), Karlie Baran (2017), Amanda Steffey (2015), Erin Barno (twice, 2011 & 2012), Beth Kelley (2007), Jennifer Marabella (three times, 2010, 2011 & 2012), Julianne Zackey (2010) and Kolbey Seidel (twice, 2009 & 2010), have earned All-Region recognition. The 2010 season marked the first time in W&J field hockey history that the team landed multiple members on the All-Region team. Kelley was the first player in school history named to the all-region squad.

Coghlan was the assistant field hockey and women’s lacrosse coach at the College of Wooster from 2004-2006. Coghlan’s duties with the field hockey program focused primarily on the goalkeepers and the defense.

She helped 20 players earn All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors, including six players who went on to garner All-Region status. Coghlan also helped three Fighting Scots become All-Americans. In addition to her coaching duties, Coghlan assisted the Wooster athletics department with NCAA compliance guidelines. Coghlan also has one year of coaching experience as a volunteer goalkeeper assistant at Kent State.

Coghlan has worked the Connecticut Elite Field Hockey Camp and the Extreme Field Hockey Camp in Long Island. She was also a USFHA Futures Program Coach in 1996 and 2004.

As a collegiate player, Coghlan was a four-year field hockey letter winner as a goalkeeper at Division I Ohio University. Her single-season save total of 223 in 1991 still ranks third all-time in a season for the Bobcats. She received a bachelor’s degree in sports sciences from OU in 1993. In 2010, Coghlan earned a master of science degree in exercise science and health promotion from California University of Pennsylvania.
